Today when one gets summoned for jury duty, one gets a
letter in the mail. In 1880, jurors were announced in the paper. On This Day
there were over 100 jurors announced. The interesting part, from a genealogical
point of view, is that the announcements would include the person’s name,
occupation and residence!

City residents also included the ward in which they
resided. For example, John A. Weimer was a carpenter. He lived in the third ward
in the City.
