October 2014

Dennies Ferioli & Ron Nicholes will hold a lecture and book signing of Last Man Standing: A biography of Wm. McCaskey as part of the Lancaster County Historical Society’s Regional Colloquium on Thursday, 16 October. The lecture is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Historical Society, located at 230 N. Celebrate the Harvest on Saturday, 18 October at the Lancaster Longhouse at the Hans Herr property. The Hans Herr House & Museum is located at 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street.
 

Dr. John Fornieri, University of Rochester, will hold a lecture & book signing as part of the Lancaster County Historical Society’s Presidential Lecture Series. The session is titled "1864 & The Politics of Emancipation.” It will be held Thursday, 23 October, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Historical Society, located at 230 N. President Avenue, Lancaster. The Hans Herr House & Museum will offer a Native American Quillwork Class on Saturday, 25 October. The class runs 9 a.m. to noon. There is a fee for this class. The Museum is located at 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street. To reserve your space, call 717-464-4438.
 

The Ukrainian Historical and Educational Center of New Jersey will present “Nashi Predky – Our Ancestors” on Saturday, 25 October. Scheduled lectures at this Family History Group Conference are: Galicia: An Introduction to the Austro-Hungarian Province; Ukrainian Vital Records: Finding Them, Reading Them, Understanding Them; The Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in L’viv; and Eastern Europe and DNA Testing. November 2014

The Lancaster County Historical Society will hold “221B Baker Street for Genealogists: Conflicting Sources and Evidence Workshop” on Wednesday, 5 November. The workshop will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information, go to LancasterHistory.com.  
 

The Lancaster County Historical Society will hold “Introduction to the History and Art of Quilts” on Tuesday, 18 November. The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The workshop will highlight 10 quilts, including several Amish-made quilts from the Esprit Quilt Collection.  There is a limit of 15 people for this workshop, so register early. For more information, go to LancasterHistory.com.  
 

Dr. Johnathan White, will hold a lecture and book signing as part of the Lancaster County Historical Society’s Presidential Lecture Series. The session is titled "Emancipation, the Union Army, and the Re-election of Abraham Lincoln." Mary Boomsma & Stan White will speak on "Robert Fulton: More than a Steamboat" as part of the Lancaster County Historical Society’s Regional Colloquium on Thursday, 11 December. Looking ahead to 2015
The library at the Chester County Historical Society will be closed January for what the CCHS is calling “The Big Dig.” During January, the CCHS will be updating the library and its collections.
 

The Chester County Historical Society will hold its 2015 Antiques Show at the Phelps School from 3 - 5 April 2015.

The NGS 2015 Family History Conference will be held 13–16 May 2015 in St. Charles, Missouri, at the Saint Charles Convention Center. More info to come closer to the event.
